NETS-T Standards

My goals are to strengthen my confidence in at least 2 NETS-T standards. The two standards I would like to strengthen are to facilitate and inspire students learning and creativity and the second is to promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility. To achieve these goals I will spend a considerate amount of time to researching and studying methods to increase students learning and creativity and to increasing digital citizenship and responsibility in my classroom. I will monitor my progress by examining my lessons plans. I will evaluate and extend my learning by professional development and peer observation.

  1. Hello Thomas.
I find that inspiring creativity can be very difficult but very rewarding when a student takes the time to come up with something new. Recently, I've been assigning projects where the students have to find creative ways to present the content I'm looking for. I few of my students used windows moviemaker, another made a commercial, and another used Glogster to create an online poster. I find that if you give them free reign on how they want to present their information, they really enjoy the process more.

  2. Thomas - my wife is an art teacher so I, too, have an appreciation for wanting to strengthen and and inspire students' creativity. I notice that students today of the technology generation need instant results, spontaneous solutions and rapid response to their needs. I like to encourage creative thinking as much as I can in a math room by offering open-ended questions and encouraging students to dialogue solutions. Good luck with your efforts.
